Who We Are
Jorge M. Serpa
Born in Portugal in 1960, Jorge grew up in Mozambique, where he lived until 1974. In 1979 he moved to the US to complete his college education (he holds BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and a MBA degree from Georgetown). In 2000, after a successful career in the electrical energy business, Jorge decided that he would like to spend more of his time traveling, and preferably by "alternative means of transportation." Since then, he:

  • crossed the Atlantic from Brazil to the US on a 35' sailboat (2000)
  • spent two years competing with a 40' sailboat on the Mediterranean Grand-Prix circuit (2000-2001)
  • crossed the Atlantic from Portugal to the US on a 39' sailboat (2001-2002)
  • traveled close to 30,000 km overland through Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon (2005-2008)
  • traveled numerous times overland to Morocco (2007-2009)
  • traveled extensively by car and motorcycle around Europe (2008-2010)
  • traveled around the world (including crossing the US on Amtrak trains, crossing the Pacific on a container vessel, and crossing Asia on sleeper trains such as the Trans Mongolia and the Trans Siberia) (2009)
  • traveled by motorcycle from France to Guinea-Bissau (2010)

In 2010 he started working on his book "Slow Roads! Beautiful Drives Through Portugal for Cars & Motorcycle," which went to print in December 2011.
